A Clan McLean Connection
I first started my family research early 1980, believing the process would be relatively simple until I discovered that my Grandfather, James Morris McLean married a Grace McDonald McLean, and that both their fathers were named Alexander McLean. This research enabled me to gather useful resource materials and data bases together with historical information which I have included within this site. I believe this data base would be useful to any researcher seeking information within Australia, New Zealand and/or Scotland.

Huguenot Genealogical Resources
The Huguenots were French Protestants who were members of the Reformed Church which was established in 1550 by John Calvin. The origin of the name Huguenot is uncertain, but dates from approximately 1550 when it was used in court cases against "heretics" (dissenters from the Roman Catholic Church). There is a theory that it is derived from the personal name of Besann Hugues, the leader of the "Confederate Party" in Geneva, in combination with a Frankish corruption of the German word for conspirator or confederate: eidgenosse. Thus, Hugues plus eidgenot becomes Huguenot, with the intention of associating the Protestant cause with some very unpopular politics.

Wills in Australia
Never underestimate the value of wills and probate administration files in your genealogy research. As well asproviding the obvious details of what assets the deceased owned, you can glean all sorts of information out of the will:addresses, occupations, names of married daughters, names ofdaughters-in-law and sons-in-law, names of grandchildren. Wills can be particularly useful in filling in gaps where thebirth and marriage indexes cease. Some files may contain deathcertificates (if the deceased died overseas) or may contain affidavits of family members (if there are administration problems with the will).
